I was born in Alor Setar - a nice, small and friendly town in the state of Kedah, Malaysia. Believe it or not, I was born on the last day of the year, which was kind of special because the next day would always be a public holiday (in most places, anyway), and I was always the youngest in my class at school (that was, until I went to Australia, and discovered that they don't go to school based on their age as at 1 Jan).
After having worked in Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, there are pleasant things about Malaysia:
... and the unpleasant things :
My favourite TV programme is Babylon 5. My next favourite thing (apart from my husband and Babylon 5) is food. Yes, food - cooking and eating, but mainly eating (I don't have much time to cook nowadays). My favourite is Thai.
Here is the TEOH family tree and here is an explanation of the Teoh surname.
I currently work as a Senior Actuary in the Hong Kong office of ING Asia Pacific.
Previously, I worked as a Consulting Actuary in the Sydney office of Trowbridge Consulting, part of Deloittes. My practice area was in Financial Services, specialising in Life Insurance.
Before that, I managed the Malaysian office in Kuala Lumpur which I set up in early 1997. It was the third Trowbridge office in Asia after Hong Kong and Singapore.
Prior to joining Trowbridge, I was with Prudential Corporation Australia Limited and before that, Prudential Assurance New Zealand. At Prudential Australia, I was responsible for the development and management of Prophet (an actuarial projection system) as a financial management tool. Prophet was used to assist in the calculation and analysis of MOS profits (Australian requirement), accruals, embedded and appraisal value calculations.
I have an MEc from Macquarie University and have been a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) since Feb 1996.
