Hi! I have an interest in Yang Style Tai Chi as taught by CHENG Man Ching and HUANG Sheng Shyan. I am currently learning from Tony Ward at Centennial Park in Sydney. Some of the websites that relate to the particular style that I practice are: Stillpoint, Sing Ong Tai Chi, School of Central Equilibrium, Tai Chi Aotearoa, and Sydney School of TaiChi.

I am also learning sword and broad-sword forms from Tennyson Yiu at Manly/Queenscliff.

I also have an interest in Jin Yong's (or Louis Cha's) books, but there are very few English translations around eg the Asiapac comic version of the Return of the Condor Heroes, The Book and The Sword, Sword of the Yueh Maiden, Fox Volant of the Snowy Mountains, and The Deer and the Cauldron.

Here is my family tree, and an explanation of my family name YANG written by my father, including our ancestral poem. Here is another website explaining my surname YANG. On my mother's side, you can visit the LEOW family website. Here is another website explaining LEOW.

Andy: Mini-Resumé

I shall be working with ING Investment Management Asia Pacific (Hong Kong) Ltd on a project.

I was a Portfolio Manager within the Structured Investment Group (SIG) of County Investment Management which is now INVESCO, part of the AMVESCAP group). SIG offered portfolio risk transformation and management products e.g. index funds, passive overlays, protected growth funds, and active quant funds. One of the more interesting things that I've done (with Andrew Wakeling, Jon Carter and Paul Murphy) is longevity risk. Here's a link to a scanned version of the Personal Investor article on longevity risk and here is the direct web link. Another interesting thing I have been working on is on Socially Responsible Investments.

Previously, I was a Vice President at BT Advisory Services (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia which was part of Bankers Trust in New York before its takeover by Deutsche Bank. We offered Risk Management Advisory services to assist financial institutions manage their strategic risk business issues. From our Kuala Lumpur and Singapore offices, we covered Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Hong Kong and South Korea. We had patented our probability-of-default model (Default Filter) which has been tailored for use by banks in emerging markets. This was one of the reasons that BT Risk Management Advisory won the Euromoney Risk Advisor of the Year for 3 years in a row.

Before that, I was a Vice President at Bankers Trust Funds Management Ltd in Sydney, Australia. I was responsible for the Performance Research Team which measured and analysed the performance of the fund managers eg attribution analysis. I was also a Trustee Director of the BT Staff Superannuation Fund which was a great experience.

I started my working life at the AMP Society in Wellington, New Zealand (in Life Insurance Marketing), followed by Superannuation Consulting at William M. Mercer in Sydney. After that, I joined BT in its Product Development area where I was responsible for financial modelling and for insurance products.

I have a BEc(Hons) from Macquarie University majoring in Actuarial Studies and I was 2 subjects short of on a second major in computing. The latter has been extremely useful and I would recommend actuarial students to take additional subjects if they can fit them in. I spoke on behalf of the students at the graduation ceremony which was fun. My honours supervisor was Michael Sherris.

I went to high school in St Leo's College, Wahroonga and La Salle Secondary and Primary Schools in Petaling Jaya.

Like Ying, I am a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. I was the Treasurer of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia (ASM) in 1997-98 and was its webmaster. I have been involved in the actuarial education process in Australia by being a marker, tutor, chief tutor, examiner, chief examiner and course writer in the Investments area. In Malaysia, I co-coordinated the Actuarial Control Cycle course with Ying. I am an Affiliate Member of the Securities Institute of Australia, the Q-Group Australia (Quantitative Research Institute of Australia), and an affiliate member of the Association for Investment Management and Research (AIMR).

I've published a few papers in the IAA’s Quarterly Journal:

And in the Journal of the Securities Institute of Australia (JASSA):

Calculated risks for satisfying returns was published in the Singapore Business Times Banking and Insurance Supplement on 26 May 1997 as well as in Simex Energy, 3rd Quarter 1997.
